❖ About Japanese Charcoal
Charcoal and cleansing are two things which might not seem to go together, though the Japanese have known the purifying effects of charcoal for centuries.
Bamboo sumi charcoal, also called takesumi, is highly porous carbon. It is very conductive and exhibits exceptional properties for releasing negative ions and electromagnetic wave absorption.
First, raw bamboo is cut to about one-meter size and laid to dry for about three months. Then, the cuttings are heated in earthen kilns at 800 to 1,000 degrees Celsius for 28 days. Next, they are ground into a fine powder with microscopic pores in a mesh-like crystalline structure.
When incorporated into soap, this micro-pore mesh of the carbon powder traps skin toxins and other organic impurities, which get washed away as you rinse.
